Basic Electronic Components

This is my official site and you can explore my profile in the "About me" section.

Here I would be sharing a lot of hobby stuff and tricks&tips in electronics and related software. As of now I feel that though there is a whole host of content on internet regarding everything, all are merely described in a narrower constrain to get something to just work but very rare online content discuss about the difficulties involved in translating the hobby ideas into the real working, safer, less power consuming, hassle free ones and many other troubles including the availability of raw material. Noteworthy to mention here is that CrazyRobotics have successfully translated many hobby ideas into real time working systems in the past few years which can be manufactured with minor modification in the design to take out the industrial versions out of it and use as a system which are to be mentioned soon on this portal.

Time to gain some basic knowledge

So lets get started with the first post by gaining some basic knowledge about electronics that is really essential before getting hands on experience.

Basically the branch of physics and technology concerned with the design of circuits using transistors and microchips, and with the behavior and movement of electrons in a semiconductor, conductor, vacuum, or gas. is referred to as "electronics". And any system used to affect electrons or their associated fields is referred as an electronic component. Later these are further classified into a variety of classes like the following:

Active components which rely on a source of energy and usually can inject power into a circuit. Active components include amplifying components such as transistors, triode vacuum tubes (valves), and tunnel diodes.

Passive components are those which can't introduce net energy into the circuit. They also can't rely on a source of power, except for what is available from the (AC) circuit they are connected to. As a consequence they can't amplify (increase the power of a signal), although they may increase a voltage or current (such as is done by a transformer or resonant circuit). Passive components include two-terminal components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, and transformers.

Electromechanical components are those which can carry out electrical operations by using moving parts or by using electrical connections.

The figure below depicts few of above mentions varieties of "Basic Electronic Components".

The thing to note here is that the world of electronics is all analog everywhere and always.
And of course, newbies to electronics !!!....... as you are a crazyrobotics reader, no need to worry looking at above picture thinking what are all these alien like things. This portal shall cover all the details of every electronic component as and when felt necessary with projects coming up.
